On
the way to Lan Kwai Fong, I stopped in front of a retrospective long street
that paved with slabs of grey stone.
I looked at the street board, it was
Pottinger Street, located between the common boundary of Hollywood Road and
Connaught Road in Central, the local Chinese called it “Stone Slab Street”.
When you walk through in the middle of the
street, you can see there are small and old shops that constructed in green
iron huts on the both sides. You feel like going back to the old time of Hong
Kong.
You
can find some second-handed books, fine works of art, kids toys, ready-made
clothes for women, etc. in the street. If you are going to have cosplay party
with your friends, you must come and have a look to find your costumes
such as “Batman”, ‘Superman”, “Captain America”, etc. If you are going to
decorate your house or office during festivals, the street is one of the best
choices to buy the decorations.
At the end of the street, there is only one
bar. You may think you should leave and go to another scenic spot, but this is
the best place for you to take photos along the whole street. Sometimes,
especially at night, you can also see couples are taking wedding photos here.
Lascar Row
“What is it? It’s like a perfume bottle”, a female tourist ask the
shop owner.
“It’s a snuff bottle!” the shop owner answered. “Here are some
Chinese old products, too.”
If you are fans of Chinese curios, jades and vintage products, you
must come to Lascar Row, which located in between Queen’s Road West and
Hollywood. Road in Sheung Wan. It is the paradise of Chinese antique things.
Along the pathway, there are indoor shops selling antiques like
Chinese wedding dress, giant porcelain vases, small snuff bottle, carved jade
and rare ancient coins, bronze mirrors. However, if you are not experienced
veteran professionals, you should be careful of the authenticity of the goods.
Apart
from those shops, you can buy old-fashioned production tools such as
phonographs, sewing chain watch, old newspaper or books, vintage photos, etc.
from the miscellaneous price stalls on the street and the price is relatively
cheap.
You are like playing a “treasure hunt” game
here.
It is better for you to look around first
before deciding what to buy as the stalls are always selling the goods in
similar shapes and you are welcome to do with the stall bargaining.
Lan Kwai Fong
Sharp
and colorful neon lights with words “Bar”, “Wine”, “Cheers” and rhythmic music
tells you that you are now in the most famous sleepless area in Hong Kong, Lan
Kwai Fong. It’s the party time with your friends.
It is a small square street in Central, defined by D’Aguilar Street and a small lane. More than 90 bars, clubs, pubs and restaurants providing Japanese, Indian, Italian, Mexican, French and the Middle East cuisine attract you when walking through the L-shaped, cobble-stone lane.
If
you have paid attention to entertainment or gossip news, I believe that you
must know Lan Kwai Fong, as many stars love coming here. Maybe it gives you a
chance to meet them!
During the times of Halloween, Christmas,
New Year or different worldwide “Beer Festivals", there will be a field of
big carnivals, loaded with food and wine. You can enjoy & feel the festive
atmosphere of Hong Kong.
