If you feel very hungry and exhausted after visiting the old streets in Sheng Wan, you can take a rest and eat some snack food in Central at Elgin street.

Standing in front of the Leaf Dessert, you may have an illusion that you are living in 50s. The green outside of Dai Pai Dong, the antique wood chairs and desks still looks as it did originally. Age has not crumbled this old dessert shop and even created a well-known restaurant in Central. It just like a travel across the time and space when you sitting here to consume the food.

“Three stewed beef noodles please!” We ordered the famous dishes of this little shop. Just a few minutes later, the man with the lightly white hair handed round the noodles for us carefully. The noodles put into a faded plastic bowl and it looked like as the universal food that you can find in every restaurant in Hong Kong. But the air was redolent with an enticing smell which tells you that – it is not a common dish. The sauce and gravy from the tender meat was spilled out while you chewing the juicy meat. The al dente noodles make you want to order one more. Even the stewed beef noodles have an unspectacular appearance, but it is full of delicious taste.

After eating some salty food, you may want to have a dessert. Here is a right place for you. The hot black sesame may too sweet for you but it is the exact traditional taste which different from the modern style that it may add some fruit and ice cream on the black sesame. It makes you feel satisfied.

At Leaf Dessert, you cannot not find the fashion shop design, you cannot have a comfortable seat even you cannot enjoy the cool air conditioners, but what you can eat here is the handmade savor with the sincerity from the makers.





If you are not full and want to eat more traditional food in Central, you can go straight and turn right from Leaf Dessert. Then you will arrive at Kung Lee. Kung Lee has about fifty five years history and renowned for sugar cane products.

Standing in front of this pre-war tenement building, you can smell the air with fresh sugar cane because the owner is making many sugar cane juices at the top left corner of this old shop. You may also feel confused as there are many multifarious sugar cane goods. You don’t know which products you need to buy or just purchase all. 

Finally, we bought two sugar cane juices and two sugar cane cakes. Both of these are economical food – it costs nine dollars for one only. However, the price is not main reason to attract you to buy. The major reason is you can feel full of loves when you take a mouthful of sugar cane food which the taste is similar with the food made by your old grandparents in your childhood.

Kung Lee is not only a sugar cane food shop, but also the shop can remind you the wonderful old days. Don't trifle away your time and cherish the time with your family!
